Sunset & Sewanee Quick Steak Marinade

I use this marinade for beach house weekends or impromptu patio parties when I need to grill up steaks on the fly. There are many substitutions available for this marinade, such as Balsamic Vinegar, in case you don’t have the sauces on hand for the recipe.

Gather all of the ingredients.

New York Strip Steak with bone in. A typical cut found at most grocery stores.

Place the steak in a resealable Ziplock type gallon bag.

Add the marinade to the steak for at least an hour or longer, but not over 24hrs.

On the fly marinated grilled New York Strip Steak with creamed spinach and pickled beets.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup oil, olive
  • 1 tbsp shallots, minced
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 rosemary sprig optional
  • 2 cups soy sauce
  • 3/4 cup A.1. or Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl and place in a casserole dish, large bowl or plastic freezer bag to marinate beef steaks or portobello mushrooms in the fridge for an hour before hitting the grill.

Notes

If you don't have any A.1., H&P or Worcestershire Sauce you can substitute balsamic vinegar. If you do substitute with the vinegar, shorten the marinade time to no more than 4 hours since the vinegar will start to cook the meat. Do not be afraid if the balsamic discolors the meat during the marinading process. The steak will look normal when you grill/broil it and it will be delicious.
